December 5, 2009 Tam O'Shanter Ice Arena
The St. John's JV's got some revenge for going winless against AW last season and won the NHC JV Division opener 4 to 1. The Generals were playing with a short roster because of injuries at the Varsity level making it necessary to move players up on a temporary basis. Cal Johnson scored the lone AW goal with assists to Chris Miller and Trevor Pieh. Chris (C-Pods) Podbielniak stopped 44 of 48 Titans shots according to the official scorer. One of the St. John's goals was scored with the clock showing no time remaining but before the buzzer sounded. The officials took several minutes to determine that it was indeed a goal. The State's Rules of Hockey direct that the buzzer is the determining factor and not the clock.

Generals Open NHC White Division Schedule by Beating Whitmer 3 to 1
December 4, 2009 Team Toledo Ice House
Robin Aubry waited for the fifth game of the season to score his first point, but he made it count with the tieing goal 3:15 into the second period. After Aubry broke the ice, AW scored two more third period goals and won their first ever White Division game beating Whitmer 3 to 1. The lanky Aubry's all around game with solid checking, passing and stellar penalty kill abilities make him a valuable part of the Generals success.
AW dominated play through out the game, but the Panthers Sophomore Goal Tender Austin Roudebush's 42 saves allowed Whitmer to keep it close. In fact there was no scoring until Whitmer's Cody Rutkowski scored at 11:33 of the 1st period on assists from Devin Crosser and T. Cormany to take the lead. The Generals then tied the score during a delayed penalty situation as Aubry scored on a back door shot off a David Barnes pass. The teams went the second intermission tied at 1- 1. With 10:45 remaining in the 3rd period Zach Ulrich scored on a 2 on 1 break-out as Chris Watkins slid a great pass to Ulrich who pounded home the goal. The highlight goal of the game was a rocket 40 foot slap shot by Ulrich which beat a motionless Roudebush high on his glove side. Andrew Price and Kevin Hoyle assisted on the game's final goal. Senior Goal Tender Trent DeLong stopped 14 of 15 Whitmer shots to earn his third win of the year.
The game was marred by 21 penalties with Whitmer taking 13 trying to keep up with the faster Generals. The game marked the return of AW to the White Division after several years when their only season in the division was a winless effort. AW is now 4 -1 on the season and 1 - 0 in the NHC White.
The Panthers hustled with great energy which is a tribute to their first year Head Coach Mark Waddel.

Johnson made his first varsity game appearance in AW's final game of the year against Springfield October 30th. He played wide receiver late in the 4th quarter.
Finally there is the 6' 2" 200 lb+ Senior Left Wing Andrew Price a first year member of the Cross Country team. Now a lot of former Generals football lineman don't run 5,000 meters (3.13) miles) competitively. Andrew is competing hard and his times are improving, but most importantly, he has lost a few pounds and is down just under the 200 lb mark. Bowling Green Trounces Tier 1 Jr. Generals 12 to 3
A very strong BG Bobcat team helped out by a couple of Findlay Trojan players pounded AW 12 to 3. A glimmer of light was the 3 goals by AW's Aaron Podbielniak and the 3 assists by Cal Johnson. Chris Miller and Michael Kaptur also had assists.

Ottawa Hills Beat Jr. Generals Tier 2 Team with a "Pod's Attack"
Both Ottawa Hills and Anthony Wayne are in their Spring Break. The Jr. Generals "lent" Aaron and Chris Podbielniak to the Green Bears to give them two full lines. The two Pods combined for 3 goals and 2 assists to help Ottawa Hills to a 7 to 4 win. The highlight for the Jr. Generals was having all 4 goalies play in the same game. Harry Pawliski played defense and Jimmy Thomas played wing for AW in front of the Ryan Raimonde who actually did play in the net, while Chris "Pods" played along side his brother for OH. Zander Homer, Derek Dohanas, Cal Johnson and Chris Miller scored goals for AW. Dohanas, Nolan Uchic and Miller also had assists
Tier 2 Jr. Generals Tie Springfield 7 to 7....Or did they?
At the end of the game the scoreboard read 7 to 7, but the actual score would have been 8 to 7 Springfield without a score keeping error. But the uncertainty aside, it was the "Attack of the 6th Graders" which propelled the Jr. Generals into the apparent tie game. The line of 6th graders Zander Homer, Derek Dohanas and Nolan Ulchic scored 4 times while 7th grader John Ausec and 8th graders Chris Miller and Chad Bialecki each tallied once in a high scoring shootout. 6th grade Goalie Ryan Raimonde stood well above his sub 5 foot height and fought with the much older Blue Devils. Goalie Harry Pawliski played defense and helped to protect his younger fellow goalie Raimode. The roster for the team was just about the same group who played the night before against the St. John's Tier 1 team.
St. John's Overwhelms Tier 1 Generals 10 to 0
Led by former Jr. General Nate Baumgartner's 2 goals, St. John's easily handled the Spring Break depleated Generals 10 to 0. AW is currently in their Spring Break, a week ahead of most other schools, and just didn't have the manpower available to keep up with the talented Titan squad. The two teams play at least one more time this spring and the Generals will be eager for the opportunity. Another former Jr. General and AW Jr. High student, Kyle Ramer played well for the Titans.

Tier 1 Jr. Generals Lose Opener to St. Francis.
St. Francis fell behind early 2 to 0 but then dominated the scoring for a 12 to 6 win over the Jr. Generals. Both teams played 3 plus lines in a fun filled game genuinely enjoyed by both teams. AW used 3 goalies Harry Pawliski, Chris Podbielniak and 6th grader Ryan Raimonde. Cal Johnson had 2 goals and Ian Rapp, Aaron Podbielniak, Matt Trautlein and Michael Kaptur each scored once. Seipel's Two Assists Help West, but East Wins OHSSA Senior All Star Game at Nationwide Arena
March 14, 2009
The Generals' Zak Seipel assisted Southview's Stephen Howard on two goals and BG's Zach Crawford also scored for the West All Stars, but the Cleveland area East team scored two third period goals to beat the West 4 to 3. AW's Goal Tender Dan Koralewski was unable to play because of his Pre-Post U-18 Team' s State Tournament. He shares the Goal Tending duties with St. John's Christian Davis who is playing in the OHSSA State Semi Final later today (Saturday).
Seipel has now closed out his high school career, which included 4 team division championships, 3 division Player of the Year Awards, the season and career team records for goals scored and the school's season scoring record. His assists were the first points ever scored by an Anthony Wayne player in the annual senior all star game.
BCSN's and "Icetimes" Jordon Strack recently referred to Zak as the best player in the Anthony Wayne team's history.
We will miss you Zak.

Findlay Comes From Behind to Beat the Generals 6 to 3 -
Generals Record Season Comes to a Sudden Halt
The Generals twice had two goal leads but Findlay scored the game's last 5 goals to move to the District's Quarter-Final against Bowling Green. Tyler Thines (pronounced "Tee - nez") scored the Trojans first 4 goals. The Trojans move on to play Bowling Green in the OHSAA Sylvania District Quarter Finals. Zach Ulrich scored 2 goals for the Generals who ended their season with 21 wins 8 losses and a ties. Zak Seipel ended his outstanding career with a goal and an assist.
Seipel established the following School Records:
Goals Scored - Season 53 - (Old Record Chris Mathews 51)
Points Scored - Season 106 (Old Record Mathews 99)
Goals Scored - Career 123 (Old Record Mathews 114)
Mathews still holds the career Points Scored total of 240 just ahead of Seipel's 237.
It is unlikely, with the much more difficult schedules the Generals will play in future years, that these records, by these two wonderful players, will ever be matched. We are certain Coach Mathews is very proud of Zak's career and we have been lucky to have seen both of them in a Generals' uniform.

JV's Tie with St. John's 3 to 3
January 30, 2009
AW's JV's tied St. John's 3 to 3 in a NHC League game. After falling behind 3 to 0, the JV's turned the tables on St. John's an dominated the Titans over the last half of the game to draw even at 3 to 3.
The JV's had beaten the Titans 4 to 2 earlier in the season. In head-to-head league competition, the Generals gathered 3 of the possible 4 points on the season against the returning league champion Titans.
AW finally got on the board in the second period when Matt Bolduc deflected and Michael Kaptur shot past the St.John's goalie. Kaptur then deflected a Nick Zielinski shot to draw the Generals within a goal. Aaron Podbielniak also assised on the goal. Late in the third period Kaptur waited patiently behind the Titan's net and hurled a pass towards Chris Watkins and it deflected off his knee into the net for the tieing goal.
In the final two periods the Generals dominated the play and out shot St. John's by 24 to 12 margin. The victory marked the first time the AW JV's had won a season's series against any league opponent, a distinction the Titans may find hard to accept.
